silver mountain trail summit

Directly north of Sand Pond in Lempster NH, the Silver Mountain trail is a bit out of the way, but the spectacular 360 degree view is well worth it.

The trail head is located 4 miles south of the Lempster wind farm turbines.

The short steep & straight hike up the 1.2 mile trail through pine, hemlock, and fern groves takes about 20 minutes to reach the clearing at the top.

The well-worn trail is studded with roots and moss, and is slippery on wet days, so a dry & clear day is definitely recommended.

There are several sunny fern groves

Once you reach the top you are rewarded with a near 360-degree view, with the exception of the view north. You can see down to Mount Monadnock in the south. Much of the Green Mountains (and many ski mountains) in Vermont are visible, as well as Mount Ascutney.

Look for the silver-appearing quartz deposit that gives Silver Mountain its name

Sit and relax in one of the two “throne” cairns at the summit
