I live in South Sutton, New Hampshire with my wife Susie Lowe-Stockwell, past director of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen. We each have 2 children, grown now, and 10 grandchildren between us. We both retired in June 2015 and we love having all this time to enjoy our passions. I am a retired middle school guidance counselor and I worked in Lebanon, NH for 37 years.
Many of the works displayed here are neither photographs nor paintings; they are a combination of the two produced almost entirely on the computer and printed on canvas. My digital paintings are done with a combination of techniques using digital brushes, tablets, and various software.
The result is a work of art with many of the same painterly techniques used with a real brush and wet paint. It is a new medium that you will be seeing more of in the future as more artists discover the unlimited opportunities available thru digital medium.
I start with a photograph which I use as an “underpainting” for my final product. The photograph is then modified in Photoshop to bring out the best composition, color balance, tone, and lighting. Then, by use of many digital layers, brushes, and software techniques, areas of the image are painted in and color and detail are built up with brushwork very similar to wet painting.
The whole process is accomplished digitally to develop a multi-layered approach similar to painting with a wet brush and real paint. I used to be a landscape painter using oil and brushes, now I paint digitally!
He also has photos at the Flying Goose restaurant and at Winslow Rollins Home outfitters in New London, NH and Prospect Hill Antiques in Sunapee Harbor
