The Steven Phillips Memorial Preserve is a 1 mile hike on a wooded hillside between Goosehole Pond and Otter Pond in New London.
The trail winds up and around, past an old quarry, and then downhill again to the lake shore for a beautiful quarter mile along the shore of Otter Pond.
There are many steep and rocky sections along the trails. From the hilltop the trail descends 200′ in a short distance down to the lake shore.
Views of Mount Sunapee and Lake Sunapee from the hilltop picnic area are best when leaves are off the trees.
With lake view benches and a picnic table situated in a beautiful clearing, it is the perfect short family adventure hike but may be too challenging for very young children.
There are two benches along the shoreline in shady spots where you can relax and enjoy the stunning lake views.
The Phillips Memorial Preserve trailhead is accessible from the parking area alongside Goose Hole Road.
