Newbury: The Silent Marble Weeps, A Lakeside Cemetery Tour

An overview of cemeteries in Newbury at the Lakeside Cemetery gate on August 23 from 9:30-10:30. The transition of the cemetery from a rural burying ground to a modern shiny granite resting place. Three Revolutionary War soldiers will be profiled and some notable families from the 19th and 20th century. Changes in headstones from hand carved slate to present day polished marble as well as the early iconography. Veterans from the War of 1812, Civil War, WW’s 1 & 11, the Korean conflict, Vietnam and Afghanistan will be recognized.
